Yah....its a 10 bolt (8.5" ring gear)
lets just put it this way..
if given a choice between a dana 30 and the GM10 bolt,
I will take the Dana
That way, at least I'll KNOW whats going to break.

Baruch,
I tried not to get into the
"trash talking about gm 10 bolt"
conversation
But.....
While on paper the 10 bolt looks stronger then the D30
I find them about similar in strength
the Dana will break the Ujoints (TZLAVIM)
while the 10 bolt will break the ring and pinion (KORONA), crack the carriar and take out the locker at the same time.
its due to the weaker design if the housing and the bearing areas
I rather change an axle shaft then do a complete overhaul

Alon,
First,
Are we talking about a 10 bolt out of a 1500HD?
with 6 lug(bolt) wheels?
Eather way, you are forgeting a very important part of the equsion:
Vehicle whight
That number has allot(more) to do with axle selection then tire size
IE
A 10 bolt might not last on a full size pickup with 37's
but it might in a lighter tube buggy, or trugy
IMO,
if you can keep overall whight under 3000lb....you might have a shot...
