The "modern" cat is a lot more sensitive to cloging then the old pellet type
A word on the Pellet cats
the first design was indestructable, the only thing that could go wrong with them (short of the screen busting and the pellets whould fly out the tail pipe)
was the deactivation due to using leaded gas, and when that happened, we whould drain all the old pellets and refill fresh pellets into the cat

I seen alot of cases where the cat whould get cloged due to execive oil burning or even a lean condition whould overheat the cat and close the honeycomb(it literaly shrinks and the cells close up
dont underestimate that test...its accurate 95% of the time.

Please elaboreate on how whould you use a vaccum gage to perform the same test.

לגבי שעון הואקום עד כמה שאני זוכר את מצבי הבדיקה לגבי בדיקת סתימה במערכת הפליטה
יש לחבר את השעון לנקודת ואקום על הסעפת ( לא מעל המצערת ) .
לקחת קריאה מהשעון 18-20 +-
לתת למנוע לעבוד בסרק ולהתחמם באגזוז סתום השעון יתחיל לעלות 21-22-23 .....

I understand the concept
However, that test depends on so many variables
that its grossly inacurate (Lots of perfectly running engines cat or no cat will give the same(or similar) readings)
for example: an engine that warms up might have a higher idle vaccum reading raise up as well due to many factors:
Cam profile and improper mixture(too rich or too lean) come to mind

In my view, its like taking a blood pressure reading to diagnose Astma:-)
