In Israel if you will try to do such a conversion, you will have to wait 2 years for DMV approval just for the paint...The text is in English because my Mac does not have a Hebrew keyboard. Apologies.
I have been with Landcruisers since early 80s and has done many trips in the Western part of North America from Colorado, Moab and all the way to Alaska. The diesel model was never imported to the US and we go through hoops to do diesel conversions. It’s not a coincidence that Australia and Africa all use the diesel version. Until the mid 90s the Toyota diesel engines were bullet proof (1HD,1HDT, 1HDFT). I have had an 60 series that have gone through a diesel conversion, built a 40 series with an ungraded turbo engine and currently converting an 80 series to a turbo diesel (1HDFT/H151) 4.2 liter 24 valves. The engine came out of the vehicle that marked the waypoints for the Paris Dakar race. I am building an expedition vehicle, and just considering the range on a tank of fuel would justify the Diesel selection.
I have driven hundred of thousands of miles with both and my preference is the Diesel.
Here is the two links for the last two vehicles conversion…
