The choice of pulling the motor of the trans depends on what equipmant you have or can get
If you have a lift and a transmition jack, pull the trans
if you have a cherry picker )engine crane(
by all means pull the motor
I done alot of stupid things in my youth and one of them was to change the clutch on a 1972 Datsun 240 Z
in my drive way using a floor jack only, need less to say the tranny fell off the jack and the sharp end of the bell housing landed on my little finger on the right hand
luckly, the finger wasnt severed off, it just cut it to the bone....yes I could see the bone, I still have the scar 18 years later
And that trans is much lighter then the cj trans /tcase combo
The tool you are refering to is a clutch alignmant tool, its a wood or plastic duplicate of the trans input shaft.
Hanan and Nimrod,
How about starting a thread about the stupid things we all did a long time ago?
Automotively speaking of cource
Lets not get into the "I got married" thing
Some people learn by example and that will prevent anyone from loosing a finger......or worst.
