Lets get some of the urban legends out of the way
I'll be talking about ALL filters sold in the US
and I'm going to assume that if you are buying a US brand filter, you are getting the same product
All filters sold today have the anti drain back valve, regardless of brand(that was't the case 20 years ago)
all the filters made by the same manufacturer are the same, they use the same filtering media, same anti drain valve, same thickness case
in regardless if its for a CJ or a YJ, the only difference is the phisical size , threads, and o ring size.
here are some quality filter brands:
AC delco(GM)
Mopar(DC)
Motorcraft(Ford)
fleetguard(Cummins)
WIX
Purolator( BTW they are all made in Israel)
Mobile 1
Im not including Fram on that list, its the most sold filter brand in the US and they are junk, they have the least filtering media then any other filter
I seen some Japanese filters (no name )
that are of a superior quality
They are black, only have a number on them and say:made in Japan.
other then that, stick to the list above,
you cant go wrong with any of them.
Another point:
iin the old days, there were only 2-3 (spin on) filters
Chevy (ph25 and ph35)
Ford(ph8)]
Dodge(dont remember the number
The PH8 is the most popular filter ever,
as if fitted most imports too(JAPS)
We used it in all the Nissan and Toyotas that came in,
even today I get them for the 22re hilux, much cheaper that way
Point of the story:
Do a little research
and you will find a different filter(application) to fit the CJ
